Police burst alleged printers of fake INEC results in Rivers
There has been mass anger, especially among political parties in Rivers state following a video of fake result sheets being printed for the yet-to-be-conducted re-run election for Rivers South-East senatorial district.
The police reportedly bursted a printing press where fake Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) result sheets were being produced in Port Harcourt on Saturday, November 5.
The name of the printing press was given as Help-Mate Consult and is located at 12 Isiokpo Street D-Line Port Harcourt.
INEC had fixed December 10 for the controversial re-run election in the state after the Senate, in a motion, threatened some actions if the exercise was not conducted.
Staff of the press were allegedly caught printing result sheets the seven local government areas that make up the district and the police said they acted on a tip-off.
The director of the printing press, Atonye Peters, mentioned the name of the person who awarded the contract to him, adding that the information he was given before he commenced work was that the documents were for ongoing tribunal issues.
Scan News further reports the chairman of the state Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC), Bro Felix Obuah, as accusing a particular political party (name-withheld), adding that there was a plan by INEC and the party to rig the election.
Spokespersons of political parties in the state pleaded with the police to ensure an effective investigation and prosecution of those found involved in the act.
