EFCC releases Reuben Abati

Abati confirmed his release to Premium Times on Saturday, November 5 morning and said he was staying somewhere in Abuja at the moment.

Abati had reported at EFCC office in Abuja on October 21 after he received an invitation from the agency to explain his part as an alleged beneficiary of fraud. He was subsequently detained.

Earlier, Abati had reportedly agreed to return N5 million out of N50 million he allegedly received from the former national security adviser. He was said to have offered to reimburse the federal government the money after spending some days in detention.

There are reports that his passport has been seized before he was released from detention by the EFCC.

Meanwhile, a fresh The Punch report said that not fewer than 25 people that served as ministers, advisers and aides under the erstwhile Goodluck Jonathan are currently under probe by anti-corruption agencies.

According to the report, the 25 are either currently either being investigated or prosecuted by either of Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC).
